This weekends movie is from our classic movies vault, and is titled, The Big Lift.
The Big Lift hit the box offices in 1950.
This 1950 film “The Big Lift” is a gritty, realistic portrayal of the Berlin Airlift, in which American and British pilots supplied West Berlin with food and supplies after the Soviet Union blockaded the city.
Directed by George Seaton, “The Big Lift” stars Montgomery Clift as an American pilot and Paul Douglas as a gruff Air Force general. The film was shot on location in West Germany and features stunning aerial footage of the massive relief effort.
Although it was released during the height of the Cold War, “The Big Lift” is not a propaganda film; rather, it’s a realistic look at the human cost of war and political conflict.
