This weekend’s movie is titled “Of Human Bondage” starring Leslie Howard and Bette Davis. “Of Human Bondage” is a real classic!

The story follows Philip Carey, an aspiring artist who falls into a passionate yet doomed romance with the ill-fated Mildred Rogers.

This adaptation of W Somerset Maugham’s 1915 novel was directed by John Cromwell and written by Lester Cohen, with a cast that also includes Kay Johnson, Reginald Denny and Alan Hale.

The movie began production in 1933 as a low budget project however, due to its success at the box office it became one of RKO’s most profitable films of the year.

Although some changes were made from Maugham’s source material, it still remains true to its heartbreaking core narrative about star-crossed lovers struggling against their own inner demons.
