This weekend’s movie is titled “The Last Time I Saw Paris.”
Set in the years immediately following World War II, “The Last Time I Saw Paris” (1954), is a romantic drama that stars Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson.
Taylor plays Helen Ellswirth, an American writer living in post-war Paris who embarks on a tumultuous journey of self-discovery. Van Johnson plays a writer who returns to Paris to gain custody of his daughter, and while there, reminisces about his ill-fated marriage to the girl’s mother.
Helen meets and falls in love with her former brother-in-law, played by Johnson, who helps her explore the city’s vibrant culture and rediscover the joys of life.
The film was directed by Richard Brooks and released to great critical acclaim. It earned six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and won for Best Writing Adapted Screenplay.
It also starred Don Taylor, Eva Gabor, Kurt Kasznar, George Dolenz and Roger Moore in supporting roles.
